Epistemic Search Sequences in Peer Interaction in a Content-based Language Classroom

Epistemics in interaction refers to how participants display, manage, and orient to their own and others’ states of knowledge. This article applies recent conversation analytical work on epistemics to classrooms where language and content instruction are combined. It focuses on Epistemic Search Sequences (ESSs) through which students in peer interaction collectively resolve emerging knowledge gaps while working on pedagogic tasks. Pētījuma ‘Skolēnu leksiskās kompetences attīstīšana, izmantojot saturā balstītu valodas apguvi (CBI) angļu valodas stundās’ mērķis ir izpētīt, kā saturā balstīta valodas apguve angļu valodas stundās ietekmē skolēnu leksiskās kompetences attīstīšanos. Darbā pielietota aktuālā, kompetencēs balstītā izglītības pieeja pamatskolas līmenī. Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in the teaching and learning of several languages in an attempt to generate multilingual education opportunities, particularly in Europe. In response to the demands of our globalized society, Content-Based Instruction (CBI), which has also been referred to as “immersion and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) programs,” emerged as a teaching approach that combines the learning of curricular contents and the communicative competence in the target language.
